A Proven Concept

In the early years of the business, our Founder, Kevin Slover, had Red F150, with his son Kolby buckled in the front seat, which he used to deliver mattresses and furniture in Portsmouth NH., for his company, originally called Universal Furniture & Mattress, working out of self-storage lockers.

His concept was simple, a great marketing system and great deals for consumers, selling mattresses and cherrywood dining room sets. The business quickly evolved into offering many lines of furniture, all at significantly discounted pricing. The mantra stayed the same … “cut out the Middle Man”… keep our overhead low and we pass those savings along to the customer.. 

Eventually, he added hot tubs (made in the USA) and sold 350 hot tubs a year from that one location, offering incredible discounts and savings, and the word spread…

In 2007 Kevin purchased a 25,000 sq ft building. That same year, Kevin was introduced to the kitchen cabinet business. He applied the same marketing process and “cut out the middleman” strategy … with only 4 door styles to select from. Now, today, the company evolved to 5 brands with 100s of door styles and colors, to fit anyone desire, from the top quality manufacturers in the country.

Although the company has evolved, and the name has changed, over the years, the program as been proven over and over. We incorporated in 2012 as Universal Factory Direct, LLC. focusing solely on growing the cabinet and hot tub businesses, resulting in an 80/20 split in the product mix, and over $8,000,000 in sales (2022) from that one location.

Realizing the massive opportunity in the $400 Billion Kitchen & Bath Cabinet remodeling and $100 Billion Hot Tub industries and knowing the incredible success Kevin Slover has had, Joe Grushkin, a serial entrepreneur with a long history of success in business development, franchising, marketing and sales, approached his long-time friend (Kevin) with the idea of creating a national franchise business, based on his proven model. 

In mid 2023, Joe & Kevin, partnered and created Universal Franchise Systems, Inc. to provide local entrepreneurs with a low-investment, easy way to get into the business, by providing comprehensive training to minimize the learning curve and the ability to generate rapid high profits, while offering deep discounts to benefit local consumers.

Unlike most companies, we don’t handle every aspect of a renovation project, which puts the customer in the driver ’s seat for who does the installation work. By selecting your own installers, you control a major portion of the cost of the overall project.  When your cabinet provider does the installation, you pay for the installers time AND there is a mark-up paid to the company that sold the cabinets! Any handyman or contractor can install the cabinets. However, if you need an installer, we can refer capable and proven installers, at very competitive rates.
2. Our showrooms are purposely ‘understated’ proving we don’t carry high overhead, with lower rent, staffing and marketing cost. This bring our over-head down and lowers the cost for our customers. The Big Box Stores have high profit products (like cabinets, etc.) to off-set their low margin products and high cost of employees and overhead.
